4:00 AM - Departure from Cusco
- Meeting point at your hotel or designated station
- The tour starts early with a departure from Cusco, heading towards the trailhead, which is approximately 3.5 hours away.
- Recommendation: Wear comfortable hiking clothes, warm layers for the cold, sunscreen, and bring a water bottle.
7:30 AM - Arrival at the Trailhead
- Location: The starting point of the trail is the village of Chillihuani, located in the southern valley of Cusco.
- Altitude: 3,800 meters (12,467 feet) above sea level.
- We will arrive at Chillihuani, a beautiful valley surrounded by mountains, where the hike to Rainbow Mountain begins.
- Trail Difficulty: Moderate, with a steady ascent, but quite challenging due to the altitude. The hike takes about 1.5 to 2 hours depending on the group's pace.
9:30 AM - Arrival at Rainbow Mountain
- Location: Vinicunca, also known as Rainbow Mountain, a natural phenomenon where the mountains display a variety of colors due to the minerals in the soil.
- Altitude: 5,020 meters (16,470 feet) above sea level.
- Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted with breathtaking views of the multicolored mountains, with hues of red, pink, green, yellow, and white that resemble a natural painting.
- Highlight: Rainbow Mountain is famous for its incredible natural beauty and geological formation, making it a unique site in the world. The colors of the mountain are the result of the accumulation of sediment over millions of years combined with natural erosion.
10:00 AM - Free Time to Explore and Take Photos
- You’ll have free time to explore the area, take photos of the stunning landscape, and enjoy the serenity of the place.
- Opportunity: Take a photo in front of the mountain with the stunning scenery as your backdrop, or go for a short hike around the area to get different perspectives of the site.
10:30 AM - Descent to the Starting Point
- We’ll begin the descent back to Chillihuani, which will take about 1.5 hours. The downhill journey is easier, allowing you to enjoy the surrounding scenery as you head back.
12:30 PM - Lunch in Chillihuani
- Enjoy a traditional lunch in Chillihuani, where you’ll have the chance to try local dishes such as papa a la huancaína, cuy (guinea pig), or trout.
- Recommendation: Take time to relax and unwind before continuing the journey back.
2:00 PM - Return to Cusco
- After lunch, we’ll start the return journey to Cusco.
- Estimated arrival time: We’ll return to Cusco around 5:30 PM, where you’ll be dropped off at your hotel or designated meeting point.
