Package Plan

Day 1: Arrival in Cusco and Preparation

  • Morning:
  • Arrive in Cusco, the ancient capital of the Inca Empire. You’ll be greeted by your guide and transferred to your hotel. Take some time to rest and acclimatize to the altitude, as Cusco is situated at over 3,400 meters (11,150 feet) above sea level.
  • Afternoon:
  • In the afternoon, enjoy a guided tour of the city’s historic center, visiting highlights such as the Plaza de Armas, Qorikancha (Temple of the Sun), and Cusco Cathedral. This will help you adjust to the city's rhythm.
  • You will also have an introductory talk about the trek, the trail details, and logistical aspects of the tour.

Day 2: Cusco - Mollepata - Soraypampa

  • Morning:
  • Early morning departure from Cusco by private transport to Mollepata, a charming town at the foot of Salkantay Mountain. The drive will take approximately 3 hours.
  • Upon arrival in Mollepata, the trek begins. You will hike through stunning mountain landscapes, valleys, and small villages on your way to Soraypampa, which serves as your base camp for the night. This is a moderate trek, giving you time to acclimatize while taking in amazing views of Salkantay and the surrounding area.
  • Afternoon:
  • Arrive at Soraypampa (3,900 m), where you’ll set up camp. Soraypampa offers breathtaking views of the towering Salkantay Mountain (6,271 m).
  • Enjoy a hot meal prepared by the trekking team, along with an informative talk about the history and geography of the region.
  • Evening:
  • Camp overnight in Soraypampa, surrounded by majestic snow-capped peaks under the starry sky.

Day 3: Soraypampa - Salkantay Pass - Chaullay

  • Morning:
  • Start early for the hardest and most rewarding day of the trek: the climb to the Salkantay Pass (4,600 m), the highest point of the trail. This challenging section of the trek offers panoramic views of snow-covered mountains and glaciers.
  • As you hike, your guide will share insights into the local flora and fauna, as well as the spiritual significance of Salkantay in Andean cosmology.
  • Afternoon:
  • After crossing the pass, descend along a trail through lush vegetation to Chaullay, a small village in the mountains.
  • The descent through the cloud forests offers a striking contrast to the snow-capped peaks, as you enter a more tropical and warmer environment.
  • Arrive at the camp in Chaullay (2,900 m).
  • Evening:
  • Enjoy dinner and rest in the camp, surrounded by nature.

Day 4: Chaullay - La Playa - Aguas Calientes

  • Morning:
  • On Day 4, the trek becomes easier as you descend into the high jungle. This part of the trek is incredibly diverse, passing through rivers, waterfalls, and tropical forests.
  • Along the way, you’ll have the opportunity to observe the tropical vegetation, including orchids, bromeliads, and various bird species.
  • Afternoon:
  • Arrive at La Playa (2,400 m), where you’ll take transport to Aguas Calientes, the base town for Machu Picchu.
  • After settling in, you can relax in the famous Aguas Calientes Hot Springs to soothe your muscles.
  • Evening:
  • Stay overnight at a hotel in Aguas Calientes. Enjoy a farewell dinner with a spectacular view of the surrounding mountains.

Day 5: Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Cusco

  • Morning:
  • Early morning bus ride to Machu Picchu to witness the sunrise at one of the modern wonders of the world. You’ll arrive at Inti Punku (Sun Gate), which offers a panoramic view of the Machu Picchu ruins.
  • Enjoy a guided tour of Machu Picchu, visiting the most important areas of the citadel, including the Temple of the Sun, Intihuatana, the Main Plaza, and more. Your guide will explain the history and function of each site within the citadel.
  • Afternoon:
  • After the tour, you’ll have free time to explore Machu Picchu on your own. Optionally, you can hike up Machu Picchu Mountain or Huayna Picchu for even more spectacular views (if you have a reserved permit).
  • Afterward, take the train back to Ollantaytambo and then a transfer to Cusco.
  • Evening:
